Kate’s Hair Shines Bright

February 16th, 2011

Kate Moss has never been one to shy away from headlines, and this week she has dominated the hair news with not just one show stopping ‘do but two!  Kate has always been renowned for her bold sense of style and her willingness to play with different looks and, if the latest pictures of her are anything to go by, she takes the same approach to her hair.

The model was snapped in Brazil earlier this week, where she was doing a photo shoot, sporting a hair style which was reminiscent of the eighties.  Kate’s generally straight hair had undergone somewhat of a transformation as it was backcombed, curled and teased into what can only be described as a style that an eighties rocker would wear.

Awards Glitz!

February 11th, 2011

Following the Golden Globes, and with the BAFTAs and the Oscars just around the corner, awards fever is sweeping the planet. People on both sides of the Atlantic are all raving about the King’s Speech and trying to guess who will sweep the board. So in keeping with all the goss, we thought we would give this week’s poll an awards theme!

If you are anything like us you’ll be dying to know not only what the lovely ladies in attendance will be wearing, but also what ‘do they will be sporting. So this week we asked you to tell us what would be your top hair style if you were lucky enough to attend an awards bash. And a staggering 50% of you said you would rock the red carpet with loose curls!

Clearly you are taking inspiration from the likes of Mila Kunis and Glee star Lea Michele who both looked absolutely stunning with curly hair at the recent SAG awards! We thought that more of you would have opted for an up-do but we can see why you chose curls, especially when Mila and Lea wear the style so well. What’s more, this style screams effortless chic and looks ultra natural.

Tell us what it is that you love about curls… is it their subtle appeal, or the fact they are easy to create?

Is The Perm Making A Comeback?

February 9th, 2011

Word has reached us that American chat show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, has decided to celebrate all things hair this week by launching the first ever Perm Week! That’s right you read correctly, Jimmy Fallon and his team are indeed celebrating that eighties classic, the perm!

As part of the festivities five lucky (or unlucky, depending on which way you look at it) audience members will be given a hair makeover. Now we would love a bit of a hair revamp, but unfortunately for the chosen audience members there will be no golden highlights or beautifully crafted pixie crops, all five will be treated to a perm!

Brooke Shields was a guest on Jimmy’s show this week and in keeping with the perm theme the actress brought along a picture of her sporting the look back in the eighties. Now we here at Goody are all about experimenting with our hair and trying out new styles but we’re yet to be convinced about the perm revival. Over the years it has become synonymous with poodles, so can this style really make a comeback?

Let us know what you think is Jimmy right to celebrate the perm?  Or should this look stay in the eighties?

Jen Storms To Victory… Again

February 4th, 2011

Well it seems that Jennifer Aniston is queen of the polls as she once again tops our weekly survey.  Last week you voted her your number one celebrity blonde and this week she has continued to reign supreme as she was named the celebrity you would most like to receive a lock of hair from!

Following on from reports that chat show host Ellen DeGeneres asked for a lock of Justin Bieber’s hair as a birthday present, we had a little bit of fun with this week’s poll and asked you to tell us which celeb’s hair you would like as a gift.  With a whopping 66% of the vote, Jennifer stormed to victory.  It seems when it comes to hair there is no poll this woman can’t win!

We knew that Jen and her ‘do were liked but we had no idea they were this popular, especially given that she faced stiff competition from the likes of Cheryl Cole, who came in second place.  However, unlike Ellen, it seems that none of you lovely ladies want a lock of Justin’s hair as the pint-sized celeb came joint last in the poll alongside Hollywood hunk Brad Pitt!

What is it that you love so much about Jennifer’s hair?  Is it because she has sported some iconic styles?  We’d love to hear from you, so let us know!

Anne Oozes Forties Glamour!

February 2nd, 2011

Vanity Fair has once again dazzled the world with the unveiling of the cover for its 17th annual Hollywood edition. In true Hollywood style the cover was revealed in the run up to the Oscars and features a number of beautiful A-list actors and actresses.

However, we have to admit we were a bit overcome with jealousy when we saw Anne Hathaway on the cover. Not only was she wearing a stunning couture dress and just happened to be surrounded by a group of gorgeous men, including Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal, but she was also sporting a fabulous ‘do – some girls have all the luck!

In keeping with the Hollywood glamour theme, Anne opted to wear an ultra glam 1940s-inspired hair style. Her fabulous locks really created an impact and instantly caught our eye. However, what we really love about her look is how simple it is to achieve – all you need is a set of rollers, such as Goody’s Velcro rollers, and you will be looking as glam as Anne. What’s more, Ms Hathaway really rocks the style and looks like she should be sipping cocktails with forties’ stars Ginger Rogers and Rita Hayworth!

We love Anne’s retro look, she oozes old school glamour but let us know what you think. Will you be trying this style out for yourself?

Gym Chic

January 24th, 2011

We don’t know about you, but one our New Year’s resolutions, here at Goody, is to become fully fledged gym bunnies!  Now don’t get us wrong, we’ve had a gym membership for quite some time now but to be honest we spent most of the time in the jacuzzi or sauna rather than on the treadmill.  Well that’s all changed and we’ve decided we’re going to do a proper workout but if you’re anything like us you’ll still want to look glam even when you are pounding the treadmill.

We want to look just as good mid-workout as we did when we entered the gym – after all you never know who you might meet!  However, this is often easier said than done especially when it comes to your hair, which is why we adore Goody’s StayPut range!  No matter how much we exert ourselves, we know that our hair we will be exactly as we want it when we finish our workout.

Aside from looking fab, it’s also important that we stay practical when we hit the gym, and the ponytail is the perfect style for this. We suggest securing your pony with a StayPut elastic – they may look like normal hair elastics, but they’re actually very clever little things, as they have treads on the inside of the elastic which grip the hair.  This means that no matter how hard you swish your hair, whether it be in spin class or on the cross trainer, your ponytail will remain intact.

If you have a fringe that tends to get in the way, why not try one of Goody’s StayPut headwraps?  These are ideal for a yoga class as not only do you look very Zen, but let’s face it – no one wants their hair flapping in their face when they are doing the downward facing dog!  The great thing about Goody’s headwraps is that they are also part of the ColourCollection range so you are able to match your headwrap to your hair colour, leaving you looking ultra chic.

Give the StayPut range a go… we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how well they work and don’t forgot to tell us how you got on with them!

The Seventies Rock

January 21st, 2011

Last week we told you lovely ladies that the noughties had seen a number of hair revivals with many celebs taking inspiration from as far back as the 1920s. We wanted to know what you thought about these retro looks, so in this week’s poll we asked you tell us which noughties hair style you liked the most, and from the results, it’s clear to see your real inspiration comes from the seventies!

A whopping 50% of you said it was all about long bohemian styled hair, a look which first became popular with the carefree hippies of the 1970’s! This ‘do has been rocked by women all over the world, from LA, where the ladies love the beach babe look, to London, where the fashionistas strive to create an effortlessly chic style. One thing’s for sure though, whether you live beach or city side there is no denying that bohemian tresses are fab!

Coming a very close second with 37% of the vote is the beehive, yet another ‘do from the seventies. Although the style doesn’t have the same carefree vibe that the bohemian look has, it certainly makes an impact. And if our poll is anything to go by, then you spent a great deal of the noughties back combing your hair, as the golden rule when it comes to the beehive is the bigger the better!

What is it about the seventies look that you love so much? Is it because all the styles have the wow factor? Let us know what other ‘do from the seventies you’ve tried!

Hair Resolutions

January 14th, 2011

With the arrival of January 1st comes an abundance of New Year’s resolutions, and it seems that getting a new hair ‘do is topping your list.  This week we asked you tell us the resolutions you would be making when it comes to your hair, and it seems a massive 47% of you are headed for a drastic change, and will be taking the scissors to your long locks!

Last year was definitely the year for bottom-skimming hair, with stars such Cheryl Cole and Victoria Beckham deciding to put their hair extensions back in.  However, if this week’s poll is anything to go by, long hair is out, with only 25% of you saying you planned to grow your locks, and short hair is most definitely in.  In fact, 2011 looks set to be the year of the bob and the pixie crop!

Despite being willing to undertake a drastic new hair style, few of you are willing to give up the straighteners!  We have been hearing for a while now that the poker straight look is one of the past and that fuller, more textured hair is the new must-have style, but it seems that you don’t quite agree.  Or perhaps you just aren’t quite ready to be parted from your much loved straighteners as only 7% of you said you would stop straightening your hair this year.

Have you already gone through with your hair resolution or are you still working up the courage?  Leave us a comment and let us know what style you went for!

Noughtie but Nice Hair Styles

January 12th, 2011

We’ve already given you a rundown of the celebrity hair styles that made waves in 2010, but now Glamour magazine has done a round-up of the looks that shaped the noughties.  The styles have varied from one extreme to another, from the very short to the much too long, but one thing’s clear, it seems we took our hair inspiration from the hairdos of the past and put our own unique twist on them!

We’ve all had a bit of hair déjà vu, so why not check out our guide below to find out which era your fave style of the noughties first appeared!

1920s –The structured bob first came on the scene back in 1920 and has since been spotted on stars such as Katie Holmes and Dannii Minogue.  Both celebrities seem to have taken inspiration from the Charleston era and have experimented with chin length, highly structured bobs which help to frame their faces and, despite their short length, remain ultra feminine.

1960s – Twiggy was the woman of the moment, and she created a style revolution when she chopped off her locks and unveiled a pixie crop.  It seems that Twiggy’s look still has the same appeal, even in the noughties, with celebs including Halle Berry, Emma Watson and Sienna Miller dabbling with the hair style at one time or another throughout the decade.  Halle Berry first unveiled her take on the look way back in 2000 but liked it so much that she has recently took the scissors to her long hair in favour of the crop once again.

The sixties were clearly a popular era when it came to hair styles, as yet another ‘do from the decade became popular again in the noughties.  The beehive, made famous by Amy Winehouse, became one of the most recognisable styles of the late noughties.  The dramatic look had women up and down the country dashing out to buy a backcombing brush and hair spray so that they could coiffe their hair in the same way.

1970s – The seventies brought the hippy era – with long, flowing, carefree locks as the look of choice.  Once again this bohemian look reared its head as the beach babe hair style became the must-have ‘do in Hollywood.  This style offers the upmost in femininity and has been carried off beautifully by stars such as Kate Hudson.

1980’s- The eighties saw the rise of punk and with it came a number of dramatic hair styles that only punks themselves were brave enough to experiment with.  However, the noughties changed all of this as the undercut became popular with celebrities and fashionistas alike.  This tough look was worn by even the most feminine women such as model Agyness Deyn and singer Amelle Berrabah.

So will this be the decade where we start to create or own styles?  Or do you think we will continue to look to the past for hair ideas?  What do you think will be the next big style?

Sparkle Throughout the New Year!

January 10th, 2011

It’s official, the party season is well and truly over, and for many of us that means the January blues are starting to settle in. But don’t fear, for Goody’s here to show you how you can t brighten up your month with a little bit of sparkle.  Just because there are no office parties to attend, it doesn’t mean that we ladies shouldn’t make a bit of an effort when it comes to our hair.  In fact, styling your hair using some glam hair accessories can help lift you out of the post-Christmas slump and leave you looking and feeling fab.

We here at Goody think  our Luxe range offers the perfect pick-me-up, with a fantastic collection of glitzy, sparkly hair accessories which will without doubt leave you feeling like a million dollars when you wear them!  What’s more, with many different types of accessories featured in the range you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding which styles to create.

For those indecisive ladies amongst you check out our style suggestions below – you never know they might just provide some New Year inspiration!

The Classic Ponytail

If you’re looking for a bit of glamour without going to a lot of effort, then the ponytail is the hairdo for you.  Now we know a lot of you will be familiar with the everyday style, but the Luxe Starburst Charmed Ponytailer promises to bedazzle your admirers.  Add a glitzy twist and leave people craving your effortless chic style.

January Twist

This again offers an easy-to-create style which is great for work, or even a night out.  Simply part your hair down the middle and then take a small section from the front of your head. Twist the length of the hair, pull it towards the back of your head and secure in place with a Luxe Deco Contour Clip.  Then repeat with the right hand side of your hair.  A great variation on this look is to add plaits instead of twists, both are bang on trend and stylish, and what’s more, the contour clips will add that much craved sparkle.

Up, Up and Away

If you’re anything like us, then you’ll have spent a lot of time trying to perfect the up-do throughout party season, and by now should be a well seasoned pro.  So why not style your hair into your favourite up-do and hold it in place with some Luxe bobby pins? There are plenty to choose from, whether you are trying to create the Bree Van de Kamp look or something a bit more vamp.  For those who want the ultimate in sophistication, then Goody’s Luxe Small Pearl Bobby Slides are for you, whilst the Luxe Bobby Pin Crystal Bug is ideal for the fashionistas amongst you!

Give the Luxe range a go – you may be feeling a little down but you certainly won’t look it!
