Anne Oozes Forties Glamour!

February 2nd, 2011

Vanity Fair has once again dazzled the world with the unveiling of the cover for its 17th annual Hollywood edition. In true Hollywood style the cover was revealed in the run up to the Oscars and features a number of beautiful A-list actors and actresses.

However, we have to admit we were a bit overcome with jealousy when we saw Anne Hathaway on the cover. Not only was she wearing a stunning couture dress and just happened to be surrounded by a group of gorgeous men, including Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal, but she was also sporting a fabulous ‘do – some girls have all the luck!

In keeping with the Hollywood glamour theme, Anne opted to wear an ultra glam 1940s-inspired hair style. Her fabulous locks really created an impact and instantly caught our eye. However, what we really love about her look is how simple it is to achieve – all you need is a set of rollers, such as Goody’s Velcro rollers, and you will be looking as glam as Anne. What’s more, Ms Hathaway really rocks the style and looks like she should be sipping cocktails with forties’ stars Ginger Rogers and Rita Hayworth!

We love Anne’s retro look, she oozes old school glamour but let us know what you think. Will you be trying this style out for yourself?

Jen Reigns Supreme

January 28th, 2011

Last week we brought you news of a new trend sweeping the world of celebrity, which showed that blonde is back! So we thought we’d ask you to tell us exactly what you thought of this trend and who you thought rocked it best.

Now, we have previously said that we were a bit unsure about Katie Price’s new blonde hair and it seems that you were in agreement as you placed her last in the poll. Although it didn’t surprise us that Katie was in last place, it did shock us to see that she shared this spot with the lovely Kate Beckinsdale. We actually thought that Kate looks great as a blonde and had it spot on with her colour choice – it completed her skin tone beautifully.

Jennifer Aniston therefore claimed a landslide victory and was named as your new favourite celebrity blonde. We do love Jen’s new baby blonde look as it softens her chiselled features, and if you ask us her new ‘do makes her look even younger, if that’s possible! However, as much as we love her new hair we didn’t expect her to win this week’s poll by such a big lead.

Perhaps you prefer Jen’s hair because she has dabbled with blonde in the past or maybe you just think she is one of those lucky few women who can carry off any look, style or colour! As always, let us know…

Happy Birthday Ellen!

January 26th, 2011

It’s talk show host Ellen DeGeneres 54th birthday today – so happy birthday Ellen!  Now we don’t know about you, but when it’s our birthday we have a wish list as long as our arm.  What’s more somewhere on that list is generally a trip to the hairdressers for a new hair ‘do, and it seems that Ellen is no different to the rest of us.  However, Ellen hasn’t requested a new look, or to be treated at the salon, instead she has asked for… a lock of Justin Bieber’s hair!

Ellen tweeted her unusual request yesterday saying ‘It’s my birthday tomorrow! All I want for my birthday is world peace, and a lock of @JustinBieber ’s hair.’  Seemingly Justin picked up on her request, and responded to say that he would make this happen.

We like baby-faced Justin as much as the next person, but we would be much happier if someone offered us a day of pampering at the hairdressers rather than a piece of the young heart throb’s hair as a birthday treat!  What’s more we thought it was only his teenage fans who would be vying for a lock of his golden hair!

Well we hope Justin lived up to his promise and gave Ellen her birthday gift, but let us know what you think would you be happy with a piece of Bieber’s hair as a present?  Or would you rather have a lock from another celebrity’s head, if so who?

The Seventies Rock

January 21st, 2011

Last week we told you lovely ladies that the noughties had seen a number of hair revivals with many celebs taking inspiration from as far back as the 1920s. We wanted to know what you thought about these retro looks, so in this week’s poll we asked you tell us which noughties hair style you liked the most, and from the results, it’s clear to see your real inspiration comes from the seventies!

A whopping 50% of you said it was all about long bohemian styled hair, a look which first became popular with the carefree hippies of the 1970’s! This ‘do has been rocked by women all over the world, from LA, where the ladies love the beach babe look, to London, where the fashionistas strive to create an effortlessly chic style. One thing’s for sure though, whether you live beach or city side there is no denying that bohemian tresses are fab!

Coming a very close second with 37% of the vote is the beehive, yet another ‘do from the seventies. Although the style doesn’t have the same carefree vibe that the bohemian look has, it certainly makes an impact. And if our poll is anything to go by, then you spent a great deal of the noughties back combing your hair, as the golden rule when it comes to the beehive is the bigger the better!

What is it about the seventies look that you love so much? Is it because all the styles have the wow factor? Let us know what other ‘do from the seventies you’ve tried!

Hair Resolutions

January 14th, 2011

With the arrival of January 1st comes an abundance of New Year’s resolutions, and it seems that getting a new hair ‘do is topping your list.  This week we asked you tell us the resolutions you would be making when it comes to your hair, and it seems a massive 47% of you are headed for a drastic change, and will be taking the scissors to your long locks!

Last year was definitely the year for bottom-skimming hair, with stars such Cheryl Cole and Victoria Beckham deciding to put their hair extensions back in.  However, if this week’s poll is anything to go by, long hair is out, with only 25% of you saying you planned to grow your locks, and short hair is most definitely in.  In fact, 2011 looks set to be the year of the bob and the pixie crop!

Despite being willing to undertake a drastic new hair style, few of you are willing to give up the straighteners!  We have been hearing for a while now that the poker straight look is one of the past and that fuller, more textured hair is the new must-have style, but it seems that you don’t quite agree.  Or perhaps you just aren’t quite ready to be parted from your much loved straighteners as only 7% of you said you would stop straightening your hair this year.

Have you already gone through with your hair resolution or are you still working up the courage?  Leave us a comment and let us know what style you went for!

Noughtie but Nice Hair Styles

January 12th, 2011

We’ve already given you a rundown of the celebrity hair styles that made waves in 2010, but now Glamour magazine has done a round-up of the looks that shaped the noughties.  The styles have varied from one extreme to another, from the very short to the much too long, but one thing’s clear, it seems we took our hair inspiration from the hairdos of the past and put our own unique twist on them!

We’ve all had a bit of hair déjà vu, so why not check out our guide below to find out which era your fave style of the noughties first appeared!

1920s –The structured bob first came on the scene back in 1920 and has since been spotted on stars such as Katie Holmes and Dannii Minogue.  Both celebrities seem to have taken inspiration from the Charleston era and have experimented with chin length, highly structured bobs which help to frame their faces and, despite their short length, remain ultra feminine.

1960s – Twiggy was the woman of the moment, and she created a style revolution when she chopped off her locks and unveiled a pixie crop.  It seems that Twiggy’s look still has the same appeal, even in the noughties, with celebs including Halle Berry, Emma Watson and Sienna Miller dabbling with the hair style at one time or another throughout the decade.  Halle Berry first unveiled her take on the look way back in 2000 but liked it so much that she has recently took the scissors to her long hair in favour of the crop once again.

The sixties were clearly a popular era when it came to hair styles, as yet another ‘do from the decade became popular again in the noughties.  The beehive, made famous by Amy Winehouse, became one of the most recognisable styles of the late noughties.  The dramatic look had women up and down the country dashing out to buy a backcombing brush and hair spray so that they could coiffe their hair in the same way.

1970s – The seventies brought the hippy era – with long, flowing, carefree locks as the look of choice.  Once again this bohemian look reared its head as the beach babe hair style became the must-have ‘do in Hollywood.  This style offers the upmost in femininity and has been carried off beautifully by stars such as Kate Hudson.

1980’s- The eighties saw the rise of punk and with it came a number of dramatic hair styles that only punks themselves were brave enough to experiment with.  However, the noughties changed all of this as the undercut became popular with celebrities and fashionistas alike.  This tough look was worn by even the most feminine women such as model Agyness Deyn and singer Amelle Berrabah.

So will this be the decade where we start to create or own styles?  Or do you think we will continue to look to the past for hair ideas?  What do you think will be the next big style?

Curly Christmas

January 7th, 2011

Christmas may seem like a distant memory, but in fact, it was only a couple of weeks ago that we asked you tell us which hair style you had requested in your letter to Santa.  It’s clear to see from the results that most of you are craving longer locks!

We asked you to pick your favourite ‘do from a range of fabulous styles, including the stunning pixie crop a la Emma Watson.  However as beautiful as this style is, it seems it doesn’t float your boat as only 11% of you said you would be adding this look to your wish list.  Perhaps you were just worried about chopping off your locks or maybe you were concerned that you wouldn’t be able to carry it off as well as Emma!

Similarly, you bypassed the chin length bob option with only 15% of you choosing this style as your must-have Christmas look.  However, with celebs like Dannii Minogue already sporting this look we can see why you might be hesitant about recreating the style – without a bone structure like Dannii’s it would be difficult to look as good as she does with this ‘do.

However, storming into the lead with almost half of the vote as your hair style of choice was bouncy curls!  It appears that you lovely ladies want to ditch the straight look and instead opt for more textured, playful look.

So let us know if Santa brought you the look you wanted or indeed if your new year’s resolution is to continue searching for your ideal style

Is Cheryl The Ultimate Hair Icon?

December 17th, 2010

There was a time when we all turned to Victoria Beckham for style inspiration. From make-up and clothes to hair styles, Posh was our ultimate icon.  However, if this week’s poll is anything to go by it seems that Victoria has let her style crown slip with none other than the lovely Cheryl Cole stepping into her designer shoes.

This week we asked you to tell who your hair icon of 2010 was and it should come as no surprise that Cheryl topped the poll.  Throughout the year Cheryl has continued to dominate our celebrity hair themed polls.  No matter what she does, whether she cuts it off, puts her extensions back in or dabbles with her hair colour, you just can’t enough of her, with an astonishing 66% of you naming her as your hair star.

Emma Watson came in second place with 25% of the overall vote, with her pixie crop, which she debuted earlier in the year, floating your boat but just not as much as Cheryl’s ever changing style. Let us know what your favourite ‘Cheryl style’ of the year was.

Myleene’s Dramatic New ‘Do

December 8th, 2010

First there was Cheryl Cole, then there was Nicole Scherzinger and now Myleene Klass is the latest celebrity to join the gang of stars sporting bizarre ‘dos.  It all started when Cheryl took inspiration from Minnie Mouse on the X Factor and then Nicole performed her new single on the show with a hair style which can only be described as being reminiscent of a superhero.  Meanwhile Myleene, it seems, has turned to none other Princess Leia from Star Wars, for hair styling tips.

The usually well put together star has clearly opted for a change of style and has tried to create a slightly edgier, more dramatic look. However, similar to Cheryl’s Minnie Mouse hair style it seems the jury is out.  Some of you think that Myleene should leave the double bun look to Princess Leia whilst others thinks it’s great to see the star play with her hair.

Let us know what you think, do you prefer Myleene’s  classic look of soft tumbling locks or do you think her dramatic new look is a welcome change?

You Can’t Live Without A Ponytailer!

December 3rd, 2010

If you’re anything like us here at Goody, you’ll always be digging around in your handbag trying to find your hair brush or an accessory that will make sure your hair stays looking glam throughout the day.  So last week we asked you to tell us which hair accessory you couldn’t live without.

The results are in and it seems as though the ponytailer is your must-have accessory, with 50% of you saying it can always be found amongst your handbag essentials. And who can blame you? They come in very handy if you go to the gym at lunch, or simply need to get your hair out of the way so that you can get your head down at work.  After all, as much as we’d like to, we can’t always be walking around with immaculate, long flowing locks like Cheryl Cole, sometimes we just need to be practical!  And if the ponytail is good enough for stars like Cameron Diaz then it’s good enough for us!

Coming in second place with 40% of the vote was essential accessory, the bobby pin.  We don’t know about you, but our handbags are like a black hole when it comes to bobby pins – no matter how many we put in there we can never find any!  Thankfully, our new Spin Pin is coming to the rescue. It’s perfect for helping you to create a fabulous up-do in seconds, and the best part is you only need one so you don’t have to spend hours rooting through you bag!
