Are Retro Rollers Back?

Does 2012 mark the return of the humble roller? Once considered to be a tool only suitable for grannies, it seems that the traditional way of curling is about to become cool once more.

As awareness grows around the havoc that straighteners, wands and heated curlers can cause to our locks, care conscious consumers are turning to a more sensible styling staple. The shape of the curl you get from a more traditional roller is so different than that from the modern day wands & irons – the result is a much softer full curl.  There is also something quite charming about meticulously winding each section of hair round a roller, only to unravel them into a tumbling mane of soft curls.

The fashion world started the trend, with session stylists spending much of SS12 Fashion Week rolling hair into sixties inspired up-do’s. However, as with anything, the trend can be taken a step too far. The stars of hit TV show Desperate Scouswives wore their rollers out and about on a recent trip to London. As much as we love our Goody rollers, we’ll stick to wearing them in private thanks.
